Branded podcasting has emerged as a powerful tool for building brand awareness and connecting with customers. However, many businesses have yet to embrace this tactic because they don’t think they can produce something of the same quality as what they listen to.
That’s why we’ve created a blog series—”How Branded Podcasting Works”— to help you create a quality show while navigating through all steps of the podcasting process: recording, editing, and publishing & promoting.
Record a Branded Podcast
After you’ve created a strategy and decided how to best use your branded podcast as a marketing tool—the first step in actual production is recording.
While the quality of your podcast recordings is important, it's okay if you don't have access to professional equipment. With the right tools and the proper setup—you can create a quality podcast that serves your listeners well and generates strong leads and loyal customers.
Read on to learn what tools you need to record a branded podcast that engages your audience and helps you build your brand.
Recording Software
In order to start a podcast, you need to have software to record it with. We are all for simplicity, but something like a phone’s audio recording feature just isn’t going to work if you’re looking for a quality show.
Softwares like Audacity and Garageband are great free options for podcasters that are just getting started. However, the software you need to use may depend on your show format. For example, if you plan on recording conversations with guests, you may want to consider using software that makes recording interviews easier—like Zoom or Riverside.fm.
Each software has its own benefits and limitations, so be sure to understand exactly what you want your show to be before selecting one for your branded podcasting needs.
Microphone
A low-quality microphone is bound to create a podcast that has poor sound and needs a lot of extra editing.
That’s why we recommend you look for a dynamic microphone—such as the Samson Q2U or the Audio-Technica ATR2100x—which reduces any background noise and features a built-in headphone jack so you can hear what your recording sounds like without any other equipment.
This will make recording easier, save you editing time, and help you record a branded podcast that sounds professional.
Headphones
While technically not required, we recommend using a good pair of headphones while you record a branded podcast.
This will help you hear yourself so you know if you need to adjust your microphone or remove any background noise—reducing the time and steps you’ll have to take when editing your audio.
When it comes to branded podcasting, you don’t need a professional sound booth or the most expensive tools. Using good-quality equipment and a proper setup is all you need to get started.
However, recording the audio/video is just the first step. To produce a polished final product, you need to edit your recording to ensure that it flows smoothly and sounds great, publish it to a variety of podcast platforms, and promote it through all of your communication channels.
We know that may sound like a lot, but don’t be discouraged! With our ”How Branded Podcasting Works” blog series, we’ll outline the ins and outs of branded podcasting so that you can create a show that generates traffic and better connects your business with a loyal audience. Stay tuned for upcoming blogs!
